I've been watching this brugmansia seedling perform for several years now and decided it was time to make it a keeper!

Brugmansia Angel's Exotic x Inca Sun

I have been watching this new Angel Trumpet seedling bloom throughout the summer and now I need to decide if I should keep it.  It is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Angel's Exotic x Inca Sun.I think I'll at least keep this one through the winter to see what the color does during the cooler weather.  So far it has stayed a cream color, but the cooler weather may bring out a slight apricot hue.Deciding which seedlings to keep is one of the toughest parts of plant hybridizing.  I'll ...

Brugmansia Angel's Exotic x Inca Sun produces another beauty

Another seedling from my Brugmansia Angel's Exotic x Inca Sun cross has earned a spot in my watch zone.  This one more closely resembles its mother, Angels Exotic than the other seedlings from this cross I placed in my watch zone earlier. The more I look at this Angel Trumpet bloom the more it resembles a white/cream colored Angels Exotic bloom. If Angels Exotic happens to be in bloom the next time this seedling blooms, I'll take a picture of the two together for comparison.I plan to ...

The exotic shows in this new Angel Trumpet seedling

The one Angel Trumpet I use in my breeding program more than any other is Brugmansia 'Inca Sun'.  The reason being is that Inca Sun is considered to be ever-blooming, unlike most Angel Trumpets that bloom in flushes every 4-6 weeks.   Here's a promising new seedling that just bloomed from a cross I made between Brugmansia Angels Exotic x Inca Sun.I have about 40 seedlings from this cross growing and about half have bloomed.  So far three of the seedlings have been placed in my watch zone and ...

It's a yellow Angel Trumpet fiesta!

The past few weeks I have had bunches of angel trumpet seedlings bloom for the first time, including an abundance with yellow blooms. One of the standouts from the yellow group was this seedling from a cross between Brugmansia Rosalie x Inca Sun.With their shiny glaze, the blooms almost appear to made out of porcelain. What I really like about this seedling is that it appears it took the best traits of both its parents, Brugmansia Rosalie and Inca Sun. The blooms are a very bright ...

Dealing with Posttraumatic Freeze Disorder

I'm not a big fan of cold weather.  I'm a Florida boy and my body and brain start to shut down when the temps drop below 40f.  :)  Even in my athletic days I would not bike if it was below 50 and unless I was racing I would not run when the temperatures dropped below 40.  As a nurseryman I hate cold weather even more.  I recently discovered I have Posttraumatic Freeze Disorder, or PTFD for short.  PTFD can be defined as a condition characterized by intense fear, helplessness, or horror ...

A golden Angel Trumpet worthy of watching...

It looks like I have another single yellow Angel Trumpet to add to my watch zone for 2011. A cross involving Brugmansia Inca Sun x Mountain Treasure produced this nice yellow trumpet. The blooms had a nice form with a waxy texture and pleasant fragrance.  Only time will tell if it inherits its mother's blooming traits.  It will also be interesting to see if the blooms stay yellow as cool weather approaches, or pick-up some orange coloring like Inca Sun.        If it continues to impress me ...

An Angel Trumpet postcard?

If was going to create an Angel Trumpet postcard, this could be it.  The picture features a bloom from a seedling of a cross between brugmansia (Jamaica Yellow x Inca Sun) x Mon Amour de Mareuil.  The bloom is nothing special but it makes a nice picture.

Another touch of Angel Trumpet Gold

While out making my rounds last night I found another Angel Trumpet seedling blooming from my brugmansia cross between (Rosamond x L'amour) and Inca Sun.  You can see similar coloration as the seedling I posted on my blog yesterday.  This bloom is much larger though, nearly a foot across, and is star shaped.  There are more seedlings from this cross in bud now so we'll see soon what other surprises are in store for us.
