An Angel Trumpet that really wowed me

Here's an Angel Trumpet that really wowed me over the weekend.  This is the first seedling to bloom from a cross I made last fall between brugmansia (Rosamond x L'amour) x Inca Sun. The photos do not do justice to the intense orange color found in these blooms.  The blooms were waxy in appearance and very fragrant, which is an added bonus.Finding so many great new orange blooming seedlings this fall, I'm going to have a tough time creating a short list of ones to watch in 2010.

More golden Angel Trumpets

This fall my seedlings have rewarded me with dozens of new golden yellow/orange blooms.  Yesterday I found this bloom on a brugmansia seedling from a cross between Mountain Treasure x Inca Sun.I'll be anxious to see if Inca Sun's blooming qualities are passed on to this seedling.  It has plenty of good qualities that make it worthy of watching for a few more seasons.

A golden Angel Trumpet overachiever.

This new Angel Trumpet seedling has stood out from the rest from its very first set of blooms.  The first blooms were all split and quite unusual looking.  It sure redeemed itself with its second flush with well-formed blooms bursting with color. The result of a brugmansia cross between Inca Sun x (Bert x unknown), this seedling has not stopped blooming since the first buds appeared. This new seedling is destined to be a winner.  I just wish it would stop blooming so I can grab some cuttings ...

This brugmansia is having a bad hair day

Here is another Angel Trumpet seedling from a cross I made between brugmansia Masquerade and  Inca Sun.  While I was hoping for yellow, the snow white blooms and their wild and crazy tendrils still grab your attention. This bloom has a very strong resemblance to its mama, Masquerade, and looks like a keeper for sure.  It will definitely be crossed back to Inca Sun this fall.

An Angel Trumpet with an octopus influence....

Just look at the crazy tendrils on this Angel Trumpet bloom from a cross I made between brugmansia Inca Sun and America.  While I was hoping for an ever-blooming yellow version of America when I made the cross, this seedling is certainly worth watching. This color is from day one of the bloom and I noticed this morning it had darkened up some.  The blooms have a nice texture allowing them to hold up well in our heat.  I can't recall if it was fragrant or not.

An Angel Trumpet with a split personality...

Here is a new Angel Trumpet sedling that is blooming with split blooms.  It is a cross between Brugmansia Inca Sun and an unknown Bert cross. It is not uncommon to see a split bloom on a plant from time to time.   What is unusual is that this seedling is having its second flush and all the blooms are split, just like in the first flush.  I wonder if this trait will continue as the plant matures?

Let there be white...a whole week's worth!

This is my self proclaimed white Angel Trumpet week!  From today through Labor Day each one of my daily featured brugmansia seedlings will be white.   I'll kick off white week with today's featured seedling, a cross between brugmansia Masquerade and Inca Sun.We know where the curly pigtails came from.  Masquerade is a beautiful petite triple white with curly tendrils like the ones pictured here.A few weeks ago I posted a photo from the reverse of this cross, where Inca Sun was the mom.  I ...

Dazed and confused....

Dazed and confused is a great description for these Angel Trumpet blooms.  This is the first seedling of my cross between brugmansia Inca Sun and Masquerade to bloom.  While I was hoping for an ever-blooming yellow Masquerade type, I'm not quite ready to give up hope.  I have a bunch more from this cross that will be blooming this year and hopefully at least a couple will be worthy of holding over.  I also plan to cross any keepers I have from this cross back to Inca Sun.
