How to deal with a home invader...

It's easy, just catch them with a trap and transport them away to a new location!Recently I started noticing my cat's food was disappearing at an astonishing rate.  My cat is not a big eater so I knew something strange was going on.  Perhaps the half eaten dog biscuit I found in the kitchen sink should have been a tip-off as to who was to blame.I borrowed a small animal trap from a friend and set it up in my kitchen before going to bed.   A few hours later I awoke to a ruckus as this rather ...

Snakes gone wild...bring in the cats!

Look into my eyes....That's what this black racer appears to be thinking as he casts a rather psychotic stare my way.  After finding several snake skins amongst my plants this past week, I knew it would not be long until I found their owners. Spring is officially here, my creature friends are back!

After a couple of weeks of near 80 degree weather, my reptilian friends have come out of hibernation.  The tree frogs are a welcome site because there are way too many flying insects making their rounds.I'm hoping these guys stay alert as well because I have spotted a couple of nice sized snake skins amongst my seedlings.

Sorry kitty, you're no meerkat!

My cat often accompanies me when I work with my Brugmansias.  It loves to hunt and of course likes to impress me with its catches.  She usually does not bother with the small stuff like frogs and lizards, but would rather go after the big game like rabbits, field rats and birds.Lately I think my cat has been spending too much time watching the Animal Planet channel.  She recently started positioning herself like a meerkat while she scans the horizon looking for prey. I'm having a challenging ...

It is raining birds in Florida too!

Actually it only rained a single bird, but I was still startled.I found this lone Cardinal laying in my brug growing area over the holiday weekend.  At first I thought it was the work of my cat, a prolific hunter.  Upon closer observation I could find no visible trauma to the bird. This is quite a change from the Christmas Holidays last year when I encountered this beautiful Blue Jay resting amongst my Angel Trumpets.
