Sommer Gardens / Friday, June 22, 2012 / Categories: Brugmansia, Seedlings One more Angel Trumpet heads to my watch zone I have lots of beautiful yellow and orange Angel Trumpets in my watch zone and now one more will join the group. The cross is Brugmansia ('Color Point' x 'Angels Flight') x 'Langenbuscher Garten'.The blooms are large and beautiful in form. One feature that sets these blooms apart from others is the two-tone coloration of the corolla skirt. As you can see in the photo below, the ribs are much darker than the mid section. This is especially noticeable on the outside of the bloom. This seedling is thriving in our current sauna like weather and the blooms hold up well in the heat. I'm encouraged that the two-tone coloration has remained during the first two bloom cycles. Often when you are observing a new brugmansia seedling over a period of time, the bloom color and form will evolve as the seedling matures. That is why I have a lengthy trial or watch period for promising new Angel Trumpet seedlings, before deciding if they are worthy of being named and registered. I have a bunch more seedlings from this cross that have yet to bloom, so stay tuned to see if any others are worthy of watching. A perfect hiding place To kill or not to kill?
