It is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Orange Zest and a soon to be named and registered seedling, (Pink Smitty x Miss Ellie)#1.I especially like the crepe paper like blooms and the creamy yellow color of the corolla tube. This seedling is currently thriving in our sauna like summer weather. The blooms are medium in size and long lasting. I'll keep this one in my watch zone this ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel TrumpetBrugmansiabrugsMiss Eliieorange zestPINK SMITTY Read more

Here is an angel trumpet that I think will be worth watching as it matures. This seedling is from a cross involving Brugmansia 'Lizzy' x 'Orange Zest'.The blooms are medium in size and held up well in the recent hot spell we had. Even with my rather challenged sense of smell I could tell this seedling ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel TrumpetBrugmansiabrugsLizzyorange zest Read more
Saturday, December 25, 2010 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 16839 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating A double dose of genes from Angel Trumpet "The Chief" This week I had one of my second generation crosses involving Brugmansia Lizzy bloom. The cross is Lizzy x Orange Zest, both of which have "The Chief" as a father. .Lizzy came from a cross between Brugmansia Rubirosa x The Chief, and Orange Zest is a Jacayna x The Chief cross. Both were introduced and registered this past year.I was hoping some of Orange Zest's color would transfer over to a Lizzy style bloom, but instead the outcome was a rather simple double white Angel Trumpet. The ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel TrumpetBrugmansiabrugsLizzyorange zestthe chief Read more
Friday, December 24, 2010 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 7313 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating This Angel Trumpet could use some more zest! While working on my brugs today I came across this seedling from a cross I made between Brugmansia Orange Zest x Genevieve. This is the second seedling from this cross to bloom. The first one was snow white and I posted a photo of it earlier this week here. At least this one has a hint of color, but it could certainly use a few more color genes from it's mother, Orange Zest. The bloom was quite large and would look great in yellow or orange. This bloom was actually buried under the foliage ... It is amazing how resilient these plants can be. One that really caught my attention tonight was this beautiful seedling from a cross between Orange Zest and an unknown cultivar.Orange Zest is a new cultivar I introduced and registered last fall. It came from a cross Liz Fichtl made between Jacayna and The Chief. These blooms have a strong resemblance to those of Orange Zest, but are ... Sunday, December 13, 2009 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 8778 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating A tail of two Angel Trumpet Chiefs Actually I'm referencing two siblings from The Chief, a legendary but short lived Angel Trumpet. Today's featured Angel Trumpet seedling is from a cross between brugmansia seedling (Jacayna x The Chief) #6 x (Jacayna x The Chief) #7. Jacayna x The Chief #6 was recently registered and named as 'Orange Zest'. When it comes to plant breeding, incest is common place. By crossing seedlings from a single cross back to each other you improve the odds of achieving whatever it was you were hoping ...
