Mutant in paradise...

A promising new brugmansia seedling with mutant foliage

Last season I ramped up my brugmansia hybridizing efforts using brugmansias with mutant and deeply serrated foliage.  The results of those efforts are coming to fruition and now many of the new seedlings are starting to bloom. Here's one that is showing great promise!

A tiny gem of a Brugmansia

I've been watching this Angel Trumpet seedling for the past two years and now I'm ready to place it on my "to be registered' list.  It is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Naughty Nick x Cleopatra.Don't be fooled by the photo and assume the blooms are large. The blooms on this seedling are always less than two inches across. A delicious new color emerges in my Angel Trumpet jungle.

When I first spotted this Angel Trumpet seedling in bloom, I was totally surprised by the color.  It displayed a unique color I had not encountered with my Brugmansia seedlings before.  Unfortunately it is missing a tag so I have no idea what cross this is from. The color starts out a nice salmon pink, but then slowly matures to a color I would describe as a dark papaya or mango like. You really have to see it in real life to appreciate how beautiful the color is.  No other brugmansia I know ...

An Angel Trumpet that totally wowed me last night

Every so often a new Angel Trumpet seedling comes in to bloom for the first time and totally wows me.  I was wowed big time last night when I spotted this bloom on a Brugmansia Rosalie x (Pink Smitty x Miss Ellie) #1 seedling.  I was making my final rounds last night looking for blooms to pollinate almost missed seeing this one.  It was at the top of an 8 foot tall plant partially hidden by its giant leaves. Fortunately my bright headlamp illuminated the bloom face in passing and it ...

The silence is killing me...

I know I have been fairly quiet on my garden blog the past couple of weeks.  The primary reason is that my work and travel has been keeping me real busy.  It did not help that our recent freeze brought my hybridizing program to a standstill leaving me very little positive things to report on.  While the work and travel part is not going to change much in the immediate future, I plan to be getting back on track with my hybridizing projects by the end ...
