An elegant brugmansia seedling earns keeper status

I've been watching this brugmansia seedling perform for several years now and decided it was time to make it a keeper!

They just keep getting better and better...

While prepping my Angel Trumpets yesterday for yet another freeze, I discovered this beautiful new double orange seedling.  It was like having Christmas all over again! This seedling is from a cross of Brugmansia Ludger's Windsong x (Color Point x Double Dark Rosetta) 6.This cross may sound familiar because I featured one of its siblings in this blog post last month.  It was a super sized single orange that quickly earned keeper status. I'll be anxiously waiting for the next set of blooms on ...

Look what Santa brought me!

I guess I must have been a good boy this year because I have a great new bright orange Brugmansia seedling in bloom.  This beautiful Angel Trumpet bloom is from a seedling from a cross of Ludger's Windsong x (Ludger's Summer Dream x Creamsicle). As you can see by the photo below this seedling is a nice triple.  The bright Orange color is consistent throughout the bloom.I'm really looking forward to seeing how this seedling develops. I'm already watching a couple of other seedlings with ...

An Angel Trumpet that warmed up my day.

As a friend and I worked diligently to prepare several Brugmansia plants for tonight's predicted record breaking hard freeze, I stumbled across this beautiful new Angel Trumpet seedling.  It is from a cross of Brugmansia Day Dreams x Ludger's Windsong.Lucky for this Angel Trumpet its beautiful golden yellow blooms quickly earned it a warmer place to spend the next couple of nights.  I'll be watching this one closely next spring.

Angel Trumpets show their fall colors

Seeing how we do not have the traditional fall color change down here in Florida, I have decided share photos of the golden color we do have.  During the next 7-10 days I'm going share photos of golden colored Angel Trumpet blooms.  They will all be from seedlings that have either just recently bloomed, or are currently in bloom.  I'll start with a photo from this very promising Angel Trumpet seedling involving a cross between Brugmansia Ludger's Windsong x (Ludger's Summer Dream x ...

Golden Angel Trumpets illuminate the night

I usually take a midnight stroll through my Brugmansia forest before I head to bed and hardly a night goes by when I'm not greeted by a surprise bloom.  The survivors from last year's crop of seedlings have rebounded and are beginning to reward me with beautiful blooms.  Here's a seedling that caught my attention when its golden blooms lit up the sky during our recent full moon.  This Angel Trumpet seedling is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Ludger's Windsong and (Color Point x Double ...

A razzle-dazzled Angel Trumpet

This new Angel Trumpet seedling certainly fits the definition of razzle-dazzle, "showiness, brilliance, or virtuosity in technique or effect, often without concomitant substance or worth".  The seedling is a cross between brugmansia Axel Rose x Ludger's Windsong.  The crazy tendrils are a carry-over from its father.  I wish it was a deeper yellow, but you never know how the color will develop when warm weather arrives in a few months.

Angel Trumpet Brugmansia Ludger's Windsong x New Orleans Lady

It is always a surprise when I find a new Angel Trumpet seedling in bloom and reach down to grab the tag to see who the parents are.  Who would have thought that a brugmansia cross involving Ludger's Windsong x New Orleans Lady would produce this bloom.I was really hoping for something yellow or orange, not another single pink. Oh well, I've already had some good results from this cross and still have a few more that have yet to bloom.  Maybe there still is hope for that triple yellow?

Angel Trumpet Seedling Ludger's Windsong x Tootsie

Looking at today's featured Angel Trumpet seedling, you would have a hard time guessing who the parents were.  This bloom is from a cross between brugmansia Ludger's Windsong x Tootsie.  I'm certain the salmon color comes from Tootsie's ancestry.  This is not what I had in mind when I made this cross, but that is why hybridizing is so interesting.
