Here's the first bloom on an exotic Hibiscus cross involving ((Mystic x Cajun SW) x Nightfire) x Sun Shower,  It really has an unusual peachy coloration to it. I'm not sure what is going on with the tuft, but I may find out soon as this seedling has 3-4 more buds that should open over the next few days.  I expect the next blooms to look even better.

Exotic hibiscus can really surprise you at times with their transformations.  You can take a photo of a bloom in the morning, and then take another in the afternoon, put the photos side by side and you'll have a hard time convincing people it is the same bloom. Environmental conditions also have a major influence on what a hibiscus bloom will look like Here's Cajun Hibiscus Red Beans 'n Rice last week.And here is a bloom on the same plant six weeks earlier.

Here's a photo of Cajun Hibiscus 'Black Dragon' taken early in the day.  Exotic hibiscus can have major color swings based on the environment.  When the conditions are right this one will turn a very dark red.  I'll post a photo of it when it is in dark phase later.

While it may appear that all I grow is brugmansia, I did start collecting exotic hibiscus last fall.  I cuurently have about 60 named cultivars and will soon be experimenting with the hybridization of those as well.  I have a bunch of hibiscus seedlings growing now from seeds I purchased earlier this summer.  I expect the first seedlings to start blooming by spring.  When I first thought about hybridizing hibiscus I was under the impression that they could be pollinated in the summer.  I was ...
