This petite little beauty surprised me when it started blooming last week.  The blooms measure less than 3" across and there were lots of them.

If you like big blooms, then this seedling is one for you.  It is a cross between Adeline, a large double pink brugmansia x Miss Emily Mackenzie, perhaps the largest of the single pink Angel Trumpets.                        This monster sized bloom measures at least 10 inches across!  Despite its size, the blooms hold up very well in the hot Florida sun. I hope!For the past few months I have encountered major web issues with our current host that has rendered my blog useless. Hopefully that is behind me know and I can start posting again.  I think my blog will be a useful tool for posting pictures and comments on new brug seedlings as they evolve.  After this past winter's devastating freezes, my seedlings have rebounded and almost everyday I am greeted with new blooms.  Watch for plenty of new pictures starting this week!

After planting seeds from about 40 immature brugmansia seed pods I'm excited to report that about 1/3 already have seeds sprouting!  I'm sure more crosses will sprout in the next week or two.  This is way cool because I had some important crosses I was afraid I might have lost in the freeze.  There are at least 30 more seeds pods that were damaged in the freeze that I plan to plant next weekend. My guess is that I have about the same number that did not get damaged that are still growing on ...

After several year's of relatively mild winters, the dark side of mother surfaced again this month.  In January we had a hard freeze that brought temperatures down to the mid 20's for a couple of days.  Now, just a few weeks later we are back in Mother Nature's deep freeze.  All I can say is that I hate cold weather!!!!!!!!   I know this is going to be a major setback to my hybridizing program.  My motto in times of crisis has always been, "deal with it and move on", and that's what I will ...

There's a reason why my garden blog has become stagnant, it's called too much nice weather!  When the weather's nice outside, I spend all my free time working on my plants. Then when I'm done I'm too tired to blog.  I figure I have just under 9,000 brugmansia seedlings growing now.  I'm not sure why I let this number get so out of control, but every time I have a seedling bloom that is a potential keeper it makes it all worthwhile.I have lots of notes and pictures to share in the new year so ...
