A Brugmansia Wuppergold Sunrise

As the morning sun illuminates another beautiful day here in Central Florida, this golden Angel Trumpet bloom is illuminating my my field of brugs.  Brugmansia Wuppergold has been a great performer this summer and I'm looking forward to introducing it into my fall breeding program as soon as the weather cools off.

Name this Angel Trumpet and win it!

Here's a beautiful new Angel Trumpet I would like to register, but first it needs a name.  This seedling is from a cross made by nature, most likely by honey bees or moths. The pod parent is Brugmansia Orange Zest.  This seedling first started blooming in 2009 and really put on quite a show.  Although it was growing in a gallon size pot, it had rooted itself in the ground and the plant became quite large.  Before the freeze knocked it down to the ground, it was about 6-7 feet tall and ...

Mother Nature's beauty....

Mother Nature put on quite a show last night with a full moon rising amongst our afternoon thunderstorms and a setting sun.I scrambled to find a blooming Angel Trumpet plant to use in the foreground, but I had to settle for this rather lanky Brugmansia without any blooms.

No Love for these bugs

It's that time of year when the lovebugs make their semi-annual appearance here in Florida.  Every May and September you can count on these sex-crazed critters to annoy the heck out of you, especially if you do allot of driving. Lovebugs are harmless and are more of a nuisance than anything else. They do not sting or bite and fortunately for us, do not harm our plants.  They like to feast on sweet nectar so that is why you see a pair hanging around on this beautiful Angel Trumpet bloom on ...

Hey, where's the seeds?

While working in my Brugmansia jungle yesterday I found several ghost seed pods like this one.  I hate when this happens! In our hot and steamy Florida summers, when seeds pods ripen they must be harvested quickly or you'll end up with a pod skeleton and Brugmansia seeds scattered all over the ground.  This can happen in just a couple of weeks.  However, when pods ripen in the winter and spring, the pods would just dry and could hang on the plant with seeds intact for months.

This scrumptious Angel Trumpet thrives in our summer heat

Even in our hot and steamy summer weather, this Angel Trumpet seedling continues to wow me.  While most of my brugs are taking a break from blooming right now, this Brugmansia Creamsicle x Shooting Star seedling continues to produce flush after flush of beautiful blooms. I shot this photo yesterday morning and as you can see, a couple of fruit flies are finding this bloom scrumptious as well.I plan to name and register this seedling next month.  It is a vigorous grower and roots easily so it ...

The Madame of the Brugmansia World

If you are looking for a heat loving Angel Trumpet, Brugmansia Madame Bouvarie is a great choice. Here in Florida, many brugmansia cultivars take a break from blooming when the temperatures peek in August, but not Madame Bouvarie.  She keeps producing flush after flush no matter what the high temperature is.Brugmansia Madame Bouvarie shows her best color during the warm summer months.  The photos I have posted here really do not show the luminescent coloring of the edges of the corolla and ...

Introducing Brugmansia 'Raspberry Crush'

Introducing Brugmansia 'Raspberry Crush', a new Angel Trumpet I just named and registered with the International Brugmansia and Datura Society. This beautiful cultivar came about from a seedling from a JT Sessions cross involving Brugmansia Goldfinch x Peanut. It has been in my watch zone for over two years and is also playing an important role in my future hybridizing program. The raspberry is in its name because in warm weather the blooms are a very dark "raspberry' pink color.  Raspberry ...
