An elegant brugmansia seedling earns keeper status

I've been watching this brugmansia seedling perform for several years now and decided it was time to make it a keeper!

Time for another Angel Trumpet two for Tuesday!

Today I'm featuring Angel Trumpet blooms from two separate seedlings from the same brugmansia cross of Gemini x (Susanne x Rothkirch).  The first one has a rather wild looking snow white bloom and was obviously influenced heavily by its mother, Gemini. The second brugmansia seedling from this cross had a greater influence from its father, a seedling from a cross of brugmansia Susanne x Rothkirch, both single pinks. Gemini was still dominate in this second seedling providing the double/triple ...

Orange, but not orange enough!

I'm not sure what to think of this new Angel Trumpet seedling.  It is a cross of brugmansia Bernstein x New Orleans Lady.If it had the bright orange color of brugmansia Bernstein it would be a winner for sure.  Better yet, a new Orleans Lady style bloom with Bernstein's color!  Maybe a cross back to its parents will do the trick?

An Angel Trumpet to warm up this freezing morning

With temperatures hovering close to freezing this morning, I thought I would feature a nice warm yellow Angel Trumpet seedling to brighten up the day.  Today's Brugmansia seedling is from a cross between Axel Rose x Mountain Treasure. As you can see, this beautiful Angel Trumpet seedling starts out as a nice soft yellow and then slowly ages to medium orange. When you combine the color, form, and substance of this bloom, it is easy to see why this one will be carried forward to watch in 2010.

An Angel Trumpet proves its points

Good thing the tendrils on this Angel Trumpet bloom are not sharp!  Today's featured brugmansia seedling is from a cross of Apricot Reise x Rubirosa.  With its long pointed tendrils and rather industrial looking bloom, this seedling better calm down and smooth things out if it wants to survive in the competitive single pink keepers division.

Two classic ladies join forces in this new Angel Trumpet

Here's a beautiful new pink Angel Trumpet with classic brugmansia form.  It is from a cross involving brugmansia Rosalie x Rachel. This brugmansia seedling's blooms were long lasting, had great coloration and a pleasant fragrance.  Although there are lots of nice single pinks available in the U.S., there is plenty of room for improvement in disease & pest resistance and heat tolerance. This one is worthy of watching for another season to see if it raises the bar.

A flamboyant Brugmansia shows off its blooms

Today's featured Angel Trumpet seedling features large, flamboyant style, soft pink blooms. This floriferous seedling is from the brugmansia cross of Painted Lady x Adeline.  The blooms pictured here are cool weather blooms, which often tend to be lighter in color than those produced in warm weather. The blooms have a nice flounce to them and are long lasting.  The plant has been a vigorous grower and has remained pest free.  I'll watch this one into next summer to see how it performs.

Brugmansia Rubirosa x Little Miss Lili, pushing the red barrier..

Today's featured Angel Trumpet seedling is from a cross between brugmansia Rubirosa x Little Miss Lili.  The bloom is thick textured and long lasting with a pleasant fragrance. The coloration deepened the day after I took this picture to a very deep reddish pink. I'm certain that trait was inherited from the father, Little Miss Lili, one of the darkest reddish pink cultivars I have in my collection.  This one is still a little rough around the edges so I will continue to watch it ...

An Angel Trumpet shows off its pigtails

Today's featured Angel Trumpet seedling has the cutest pigtails at the end of its tendrils.  It is a cross between brugmansia Mon Amour de Mareuil x (Angels Flight x Charming). As you can see, these blooms are fat and stubby, allowing them to last longer than most Angel Trumpet blooms.  I do remember this one having a nice fragrance as well.  I have another seedling from this cross coming into bloom in a couple of days and it will be interesting to see how the blooms compare.
