An elegant brugmansia seedling earns keeper status

I've been watching this brugmansia seedling perform for several years now and decided it was time to make it a keeper!

A tiny gem of a Brugmansia

I've been watching this Angel Trumpet seedling for the past two years and now I'm ready to place it on my "to be registered' list.  It is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Naughty Nick x Cleopatra.Don't be fooled by the photo and assume the blooms are large. The blooms on this seedling are always less than two inches across. The blooms start out cream colored and slowly pick up some apricot highlights as they mature.  While the blooms may be petite, the plant is not.  It definitely has ...

The Flying Nun of the Brugmansia World

This Angel Trumpet seedling has just earned a spot on my keeper list.  It is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Naughty Nick x Cleopatra. The blooms sort of have a flying nun look to me that is sort of cool when the plant is loaded with blooms.  The creamy white blooms are very thick textured and average 3-4 inches across. During cool weather they pick-up a slight apricot color as they age.The plant growth has been vigorous, but not quite as crazy as its mother, Brugmansia Naughty Nick. ...

Brugmansia Naughty Nick meets Cleopatra

This petite Angel Trumpet bloom is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Naughty Nick x Cleopatra. This seedling is one of several from this cross that I carried over into my watch zone last year.  One of those has blooms that look similar to these, however that seedling's blooms pick-up a slight apricot color as they mature.  So far the seedling featured here stays white from start to finish. The blooms on this seedling are full and petite, averaging less than 3 inches across.  The plant is ...

Meet the David & Goliath of Angel Trumpets

Brugmansia come in all shapes and sizes and here's a good example of extremes in size.  The larger pink Angel Trumpet is an Ecuador Pink x Rothkirch seedling. The mini-white below it is from a cross involving Naughty Nick x Cleopatra. The Naughty Nick x Cleopatra seedling is one I first featured in my garden blog back in December of 2009.  The petite blooms are only a couple of inches across and typically have at least three skirts.  While the blooms are small, the plant is a giant.  I have ...

This tiny Angel Trumpet has earned keeper status

This tiny Angel Trumpet impressed me last fall, and now it is impressing me even more this summer. The cross is between Brugmansia Naughty Nick and Cleopatra. The blooms are petite, averaging 2-3 inches across, and are always perfectly formed.  They also hold up extremely well in the heat.  The summer blooms have stayed a creamy white.  In the cooler fall weather they aged with a light apricot color. Here's a link to my blog post last fall when I first introduced this seedling - Teeny Weeny ...

Itsy bitsy teeny weeney Angel Trumpet revisited

This is a follow-up post to the Itsy bitsy teeny weeney Angel Trumpet post I made a few days ago.  I wanted to wait until the second bud opened to make certain this seedling was going to continue to produce miniature blooms, and it has!  I'm totally psyched!  This seedling is going to perform an important role in my future breeding program.  Here is a bloom from Naughty Nick x Cleopatra fully open:As you can see, the blooms are triples and there is even a tinge of color in them.  I do not ...

Itsy bitsy teeny weeney Angel Trumpet

This has to be one of the smallest Angel Trumpet blooms I have seen this season.  It is from an Angel Trumpet cross involving Brugmansia Naughty Nick x Cleopatra.  Of course with this being the first bloom on this seedling, you never know if it is just an anomaly or if this is going to be the norm for blooms on this plant. I'm sure this bloom is going to be a triple.  I plan to slice it open tonight and check for pollen and perhaps cross it back to another brug seedling with miniature ...

An Angel Trumpet that thinks it's a rose...

Today's featured Angel Trumpet seedling has such a full bloom it almost looks as if the flower is a rose, or other full bodied flower like a mum or carnation.  This beautiful bloom was produced by an Angel Trumpet seedling from a cross between brugmansia Naughty Nick x Cleopatra.Based on the parentage, this seedling has a double dose of color genes in it.  How cool would it be to have a future cross generate a yellow or orange bloom like the one above?! When I sliced the bloom open I found ...
