With cooler weather settling in, more and more of my Angel Trumpet seedlings are blooming for the first time.  Every couple of days I come across one that just wows me.  Here's one that really caught my eye this week.  It is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Jazzy and Brugmansia America. What is really cool about these blooms is that both have eight points (corolla teeth).  Normally a corolla skirt will have five teeth, and sometimes 6.  Having 8 teeth on both open blooms is rather ...

This new Angel Trumpet seedling decided to tease me right before I left for a multi-day work trip this past weekend.  It is from a cross between Brugmansia Angel's Moonlight x Jazzy. The bloom was average in size with great form and substance.Seeing how I was gone for 4 days, I have no idea what the final color turned out to be or how the bloom evolved...I hate when that happens!  I'll anxiously be awaiting the next set of blooms so I can evaluate the seedling further. 

Here's another seedling from a cross I made between Brugmansia Jazzy x Naughty Nick.  This Angel Trumpet is a sibling to the Brugmansia Jazzy x Naughty Nick seedling pictured in my previous post and was in bloom at the same time.  As you can see, this Angel Trumpet has a very strong resemblance to its mother, Brugmansia Jazzy. It has Jazzy's form and Naughty Nick's color.  I plan to cross this one back to Naughty Nick next month to see what the outcome will be.

This Angel Trumpet seedling has been producing some beautiful blooms this summer and has earned a spot in my watch zone for 2011.  It is from a cross involving Brugmansia Jazzy x Naughty Nick.I have several seedlings from this cross growing including one that was also in bloom at the same time as this one.  I'll post a photo of it later this week. Here's a nicely colored bloom on an Angel Trumpet seedling from one of Mother Nature's crosses involving brugmansia Southern Charm.  I'm certain the father was either Ludger's Windsong or Jazzy, as both were growing within 10 yards of Southern Charm.  I would cross it back to Southern Charm but I do not believe I still have that cultivar.  I'll try some brugmansia America pollen on the next bloom and see what the results are.  It sure would be nice to have this color transferred over to a ...

Here's an unknown Angel Trumpet seedling from a brugmansia cross with Jazzy as the pod parent.  It has turned out to be quite the plant monster, almost as if it was on plant steroids.  For starters it is a 6 foot tall, multi-trunk plant growing in a one gallon pot that has rooted itself in the ground.  This is at least 2-3 times larger than other seedlings from the same cross. Today's featured Angel Trumpet seedling is from a cross between Brugmansia Jazzy x Naughty Nick.  This is the second seedling from this cross to bloom for me this summer. I featured the first seedling in late September and if you compare the two sets of blooms, they are look similar. Today's featured Angel Trumpet bloom is from a brugmansia cross involving Southern Charm and Jazzy.  This bloom was holding up well in the heat and has a nice fragrance.  I think I'll cross it back to a nice double orange this fall and see what happens.  I'm not sure if I still have my Southern Charm plant but if I do, I'll cross it back as well when it blooms.
