An elegant brugmansia seedling earns keeper status

I've been watching this brugmansia seedling perform for several years now and decided it was time to make it a keeper!

Brugmansia 'Herbstzauber' illuminates my new shadehouse

One Angel Trumpet that has really been putting on a show this winter is Brugmansia 'Herbstzauber'. This beautiful cultivar is just winding down from a mega-flush.  I bet I had over 100 blooms on my cluster of plants.  It was a challenge to capture a photo showing the giant flush because it was occurring at the same time we were finishing my shadehouse construction. All my large plants were bunched together closely to give us more working room.Brugmansia 'Herbstzauber' is Monika Gottschalk ...

An Angel Trumpet so bright you need sunglasses to view it

This Angel Trumpet seedling has some of the brightest yellow blooms I have encountered.  The seedling is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Sommerzauber and Cassies Curls. This seedling closely resembles another seedling from this same cross I featured this spring.  Brugmansia Sommerzauber is a Monika Gottschalk introduction that often produces golden color blooms under the right growing conditions.  Cassies Curls was introduced by Park Seed and has deep golden yellow blooms with cute ...

Brugmansia Brautwalzer returns from a near death experience

Brugmansia Brautwalzer, a Monica Gottschalk creation, is an elegant multi-skirt skirt white with thick textured blooms and beautiful corolla teeth.  This Angel Trumpet nearly died last summer when I recycled some used potting soil to top off the soil levels on some of my larger plants.  A fungus developed at the soil level, girdling the trunk and causing the upper portion of the plant to begin a slow death.  I cut the main plant off about six inches above the visible damage and then cut ...

There's Angel Trumpet gold in my garden

This Angel Trumpet seedling has some of the nicest yellow blooms I have seen.  The seedling is from a cross involving Brugmansia Sommerzauber x Cassie's Curls. The blooms remind me of Brenda Delph's Andrew's Gold.  So far the blooms have stayed yellow and not aged to orange like many yellows tend to do.  This seedling has great parentage with Monika Gottschalk's Sommerzauber as pod bearer.  The father, Cassie's Curls is one of my favorite single orange brugmansia. What was exciting about this ...

Variegated Brugmansia 'Grazie'

During the past couple of years I have accumulated a broad selection of variegated Angel Trumpets.  Brugmansia 'Grazie' was a new addition to my collection last summer and now it is starting to take off.     Although in the photo below, Grazie's foliage appears to have a slight resemblance to Maya, but when you put the two together you will see that Grazie's variegation is actually quite unique.Grazie was introduced by Monika Gottschalk, who discovered is as a variegated offshoot of ...
