An elegant brugmansia seedling earns keeper status

I've been watching this brugmansia seedling perform for several years now and decided it was time to make it a keeper!

An Angel Trumpet seedling as bright as the summer sun

One of the showiest Angel Trumpet seedlings in my shadehouse this past week was this one from a cross I made between Brugmansia 'Cassies Curls' x 'Lizzy'.This seedling started blooming last year and the medium sized blooms are always doubles with separated skirts.  It has a similar growth style as its father, 'brugmansia 'Lizzy', but is not as fast a grower as 'Lizzy'. When the blooms are fully mature, like the one above, it is not uncommon to see a tinge of cantaloupe color show through. So ...

Another Angel Trumpet to watch from Cassies Curls.

Brugmansia Cassies Curls is an Angel Trumpet that I used extensively in my breeding program a couple of years ago.  Since then I have been rewarded with lots of great seedlings, many of which have been moved to my watch zone.  Here's one I recently decided to place in my summer trials. This is from an unknown cross with Brugmansia Cassies Curls as the pod parent.  The color deepens and the corolla teeth turn more orange as the blooms mature.  I especially like the form and semi-nodding style ...

Brugmansia Sommerzauber x Cassies Curls

A cross I made a few years ago between Brugmansia Sommerzauber x Cassies Curls has generated several great looking Angel Trumpet seedlings.  Here's one that is in its second year of trialing. The blooms start out a vibrant yellow and then age to a nice warm orange color. Brugmansia Sommerzauber's blooms are mostly a cream color, but under certain growing conditions will turn a nice soft yellow..  Brugmansia Cassies Curls has injected some stronger color genes into the offspring.  So far all ...

This new Angel Trumpet is on fire!

This Angel Trumpet seedling is a sibling to one I featured last month. It was placed in my watch zone last Spring and since then it has developed into a real gem.  The cross is Brugmansia Cassies Curls x (Ludger's Summer Dream x Creamsicle). The bloom on the left almost appears as if it is a dancing flame.  Another trait that I really like with these blooms is that the color extends all the way up the corolla tube.  I plan to continue to watch this one into the summer before deciding if it is ...

A new Angel Trumpet with great color, form and substance

One of the more striking blooms appearing in my watch zone this week was this one on an Angel Trumpet seedling I carried over from last summer.  The cross is Brugmansia Cassies Curls x (Ludger's Summer Dream x Creamsicle). The blooms are thick textured with the deep orange color extending all the way up the corolla tube. The bloom form is simple with an inner skirt that is often split.  I have several seedlings from this same cross in my watch zone.  All have the same rich color, but with ...

Angel Trumpet Brugmansia Sommerzauber x Cassies Curls #3

I'm growing out a bunch of Angel Trumpet seedlings with Brugmansia Sommerzauber as the pod parent.  Several have bloomed and all have had single yellow blooms.  Recently I finally had one bloom with multiple skirts. Here it is and the cross is Brugmansia Sommerzauber x Cassies CurlsSo far I like what I see.  The medium size blooms were a rich yellow with separated skirts.  These were the first set of blooms on this seedling so the final look may change over the next couple of bloom ...

An Angel Trumpet so bright you need sunglasses to view it

This Angel Trumpet seedling has some of the brightest yellow blooms I have encountered.  The seedling is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Sommerzauber and Cassies Curls. This seedling closely resembles another seedling from this same cross I featured this spring.  Brugmansia Sommerzauber is a Monika Gottschalk introduction that often produces golden color blooms under the right growing conditions.  Cassies Curls was introduced by Park Seed and has deep golden yellow blooms with cute ...

A cantaloupe influenced Angel Trumpet

Today's featured Angel Trumpet seedling has a rich cantaloupe color.  It is a seedling from the cross of brugmansia Pink Perfektion x Cassies Curls. The blooms are slightly fragrant and long lasting. Seeing how this is the first seedling from this cross to bloom, I'll let it hang around for a while just in case I need it to cross back to its siblings.  Compared to some of the other "oranges" I have in my watch zone already, I'm not sure this one is special enough to move up to the watch zone.
