This Brugmansia seedling from a cross I made between Brugmansia 'Orange Zest' and 'White Magic' has a delicious peach/cantaloupe color not commonly found in a double bloom. The blooms are medium in size and hold up well in the heat. The seedling is a vigorous grower and has remained pest free. Brugmansia 'White Magic' is the father of this seedling and I ... Brugmansia 'Orange Zest' is a Sommer Gardens introduction with medium sized single yellow/orange blooms. Bergische Symphonie is a large flowered double pink European import. What impressed me most about this seedling is that it had a mini-flush of eight blooms for its first bloom cycle. Also impressive was that the blooms held up very well ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel TrumpetBergische SymphoniebrugBrugmansiaorange zestsommer gardens Read more

The seedling is from a cross I made between Brugmansia 'White Magic' and 'Orange Zest'.The photo above shows the color and form of a mature bloom. When the blooms first open they are a cream color as you can see below. The blooms on this seedling are elegant and always perfectly formed. The great parentage in its family tree shows through in the blooms. 'White Magic' has 'Pink Smitty' in its gene ... I was totally surprised when I checked the plant tag and saw that it was actually a seedling from a cross I made between Brugmansia Lizzy x Orange Zest. Both parents have The Chief in their parentage and it looks like its golden multi-skirt genes prevailed. Let's hope The Chief's bad traits were not passed on. The Chief was a short lived cultivar that went into a quick decline. At the ... Tuesday, November 1, 2011 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 6062 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating Brugmansia Orange Zest x Genevieve This Brugmansia Orange Zest x Genevieve seedling has been putting on quite a show lately. The unusual bloom form is unlike any I have seen before. The inner corolla skirt is at least twice as wide as the outer skirt and it fans out about 8-9" across. When you factor in the corolla teeth you are looking at a bloom that is nearly a foot wide!I grew out quite a few seedlings from this cross and several have been special enough to make their way into my watch zone. So far all of them have ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel TrumpetbrugBrugmansiagenevieveorange zest Read more
Friday, September 23, 2011 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 7137 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating I'm liking this Brugmansia seedling more and more I have several seedlings from my cross of Brugmansia Orange Zest x Genevieve in my watch zone. This one in particular intrigues me with its rather unique bloom form.I believe this bloom style is going to hold because this Angel Trumpet seedling has had several bloom cycles with consistent looking blooms. The blooms are above average in size and the inner skirt is always several times larger than the outer one. The blooms start out snow white but show a golden cream color as they age, ... It is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Orange Zest and Genevieve. The blooms start out cream colored and then turn more golden with a hint of pink. While this bloom is a bit ragged looking from our summer heat and thunderstorms, I feel this seedling has potential and is worthy of watching. I have also been impressed by a couple of other seedlings from this cross.I bet the coloration ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel TrumpetBrugmansiabrugsgenevieveorange zest Read more
Wednesday, July 13, 2011 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 7509 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating Some morning sunshine from an Angel Trumpet One morning last week I was greeted with this rather unique bloom on a new Angel Trumpet seedling. The cross is Brugmansia Angel's Swingtime x Orange Zest.It appears as if this seedling wants to have multi-skirted blooms, but currently it is confused. That is not that uncommon because many times it takes multiple bloom cycles for a seedling to get its act together and the blooms stabilize. That is why it is important for hybridizers to grow a seedling out for multiple seasons before ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel's SwingtimebrugBrugmansiabrugsorange zest Read more
