This rather striking bloom caught me by surprise early this morning.  It is from a cross I made involving Brugmansia (Joli x Unknown) x New Orleans Lady.This jumbo sized bloom was unique in shape and quite impressive. Now on its second year in my watch zone, this Angel Trumpet has earned itself keeper status.  It is a Brenda Delph cross of Brugmansia Terri Schindler Shiavo x New Orleans Lady.The blooms are medium in size and carry New Orleans Lady pleasant scent.The coloring is also similar to that of its father, New Orleans Lady.  All the blooms pictured here were sliced open for pollinating following this photo session so I do not have a decent picture of a fully colored bloom.I crossed this seedling ...

This week I was rewarded with a beautiful Angel Trumpet bloom from a Brenda Delph cross involving Brugmansia Terri Schindler Schiavo x New Orleans Lady.This seedling bloomed for the first time back in Spring of 2008,  I almost lost this Brugmansia seedling for good during one of our previous freezes.  Fortunately it has rebounded, and after taking its time growing this past summer it is finally back in bloom.  I really like its crazy tendrils.I'm hoping it will color up some more as spring ...

Here's an Angel Trumpet seedling carried over from my 2009 "watch zone" that has been blooming non-stop for the past month.  My watch zone is an area where I place seedlings that show great potential for future breeding or commercial release.  This little cutie is a Brenda Delph (Seedsprout) cross between Brugmansia New Orleans Lady and (Angel's Flight x Charming).Last year the majority of the blooms were double with an occasional triple.  This year all the blooms have been compact triples. ...

I'm not sure what to think of this new Angel Trumpet seedling.  It is a cross of brugmansia Bernstein x New Orleans Lady.If it had the bright orange color of brugmansia Bernstein it would be a winner for sure.  Better yet, a new Orleans Lady style bloom with Bernstein's color!  Maybe a cross back to its parents will do the trick?

It is always a surprise when I find a new Angel Trumpet seedling in bloom and reach down to grab the tag to see who the parents are.  Who would have thought that a brugmansia cross involving Ludger's Windsong x New Orleans Lady would produce this bloom.I was really hoping for something yellow or orange, not another single pink. Oh well, I've already had some good results from this cross and still have a few more that have yet to bloom.  Maybe there still is hope for that triple yellow?

Today's featured Angel Trumpet seedling has super-sized blooms, similar in size to those of Miss Emily Meckenzie.  This brugmansia is a cross between (Luminosa x Charleston) x Native Habitat Double Peach,  I like the form and color found in these blooms and I plan to cross it back to Native Habitat Dbl Peach, New Orleans Lady and Langenbuscher Garten for starters.
