The outer corolla skirt had a tinge of pink in it, but the color did not intensify as the bloom matured. The blooms were not quite as large as those of its mother.I plan to carry this seedling over through summer to see how it performs in our heat. Thursday, April 12, 2012 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 8471 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating Birds gone wild! Now that the majority of my Angel Trumpets are growing in an enclosed shade house I never expected birds to become a nuisance....that is until I discovered this giant birds nest with plastic plant tags as one of the primary building materials! Now I know why so many of my plants are missing their identification tags. For the past couple of years I have had problems with birds yanking the pot tags out of my Angel Trumpets in my open growing area. I assumed the birds were after the snails that ... Categories:CreaturesBelieve it or not Tags:Angel Trumpetbirds nestBrugmansiaplant tag Read more

Unfortunately I lost most of those seedlings in the freezes of the winter of 2009. Recently I noticed that one of the few lone survivors was in bloom. Here's Brugmansia Aprikola x Joli showing off some great form.I plan to hold this Angel Trumpet seedling over through the summer to see what it does. The one advantage is has over its mother is that the blooms are not as stuffed as those of Brugmansia ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel TrumpetAprikolabrugBrugmansiajoli Read more
Wednesday, April 4, 2012 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 10292 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating This new Angel Trumpet is on fire! This Angel Trumpet seedling is a sibling to one I featured last month. It was placed in my watch zone last Spring and since then it has developed into a real gem. The cross is Brugmansia Cassies Curls x (Ludger's Summer Dream x Creamsicle). The bloom on the left almost appears as if it is a dancing flame. Another trait that I really like with these blooms is that the color extends all the way up the corolla tube. I plan to continue to watch this one into the summer before deciding if it is ... Monday, April 2, 2012 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 7887 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating This Brugmansia seedling keeps wowing me If I was to create a top ten list of Angel Trumpet seedlings currently in my watch zone, this one would be near the top of the list. It is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Daydreams and Ludger's Windsong.During its recent flush of blooms it wowed me even more by having the inner corolla skirt turn orange, while the outer remained lemon yellow. The blooms were a real show stopper for sure. I'm super excited about the potential of this seedling, I have several seed pods growing from ... It is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Joli x Pink Charm.I'm not exactly sure where it got the spiraling corolla teeth from because neither parent has curly corolla teeth. I'll have to check out the Brugmansia family tree on ibrugs.com to see where they came from. This seedling has bloomed several times over the past 6 months and so far the coiling corolla teeth have been present in all the blooms. That is great ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel TrumpetbrugBrugmansiajoliPink Charm Read more
Thursday, March 29, 2012 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 7254 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating Brugmansia Joli x Langenbuscher Garten Here is a seedling from the reverse of the Brugmansia Langenbuscher Garten x Joli cross I showcased in my previous post. This time around Brugmansia Joli is the pod parent rather than the pollen donor. This Brugmansia Joli x Langenbuscher Garten seedling has a very simple form and the blooms are very thick in texture. The thick textured blooms and great parentage justify me keeping it around for a few more seasons. The blooms started out cream and picked up a slight apricot color around the ... I'll start with this new seedling from a cross between Brugmansia Langenbuscher Garten x Joli that is currently in bloom. While the blooms are nice, currently they are really not special enough to convince me this one is going to be keeper. It will be safe for another six months though because I crossed it back to its mother, ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel TrumpetbrugBrugmansiajoliLangenbuscher Garten Read more
