An elegant brugmansia seedling earns keeper status

I've been watching this brugmansia seedling perform for several years now and decided it was time to make it a keeper!

A new Angel Trumpet seedling worthy of watching

I was pleasantly surprised to discover this new bloom on one of my Angel Trumpet seedlings from a Brugmansia Joli x Charleston cross. The seeds came from German hybridizer Volker Sanders.  One very interesting trait associated with this first set of blooms is that the inner corolla skirt is larger and darker than the outer skirts. I'm growing out at least 25 seedlings from this cross and I have had several bloom prior to this one.  Although they were nice, there was nothing super special ...

A pastel Angel Trumpet just in time for summer

I'm really liking the pastel coloring on the Angel Trumpet blooms pictured below from a cross I made between Brugmansia 'Joli' and 'Pink Charm'.I'm excited about the multicolor look of the blooms as they mature.  They first start out a cream color and then during the course of a couple days they turn a salmon pink color.  The blooms pictured here opened a day apart and you can see the color transformation taking place.  This plant also had a newly opened cream colored bloom on it, but it was ...

A golden Angel Trumpet with European roots

Here is a promising new seedling from a cross between two classic European Angel Trumpet plants. The cross is Brugmansia Joli x Langenbuscher Garten. In late March I featured another seedling from this same cross.  Although the blooms were single, they stood out because they were petite and very thick textured. The blooms on this seedling were not quite as small as those of its sibling, but they still were smaller than average. The blooms start out cream with a tinge of apricot, and then ...

Angel Trumpet Brugmansia Aprikola x Joli

Several years ago I made a bunch of crosses with Brugmansia Aprikola as the pod parent.  Unfortunately I lost most of those seedlings in the freezes of the winter of 2009.  Recently I noticed that one of the few lone survivors was in bloom. Here's Brugmansia Aprikola x Joli showing off some great form.I plan to hold this Angel Trumpet seedling over through the summer to see what it does.  The one advantage is has over its mother is that the blooms are not as stuffed as those of Brugmansia ...

A coily new Angel Trumpet seedling

Check out the wild and crazy look of this new Angel Trumpet seedling.  It is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Joli x Pink Charm.I'm not exactly sure where it got the spiraling corolla teeth from because neither parent has curly corolla teeth. I'll have to check out the Brugmansia family tree on ibrugs.com to see where they came from. This seedling has bloomed several times over the past 6 months and so far the coiling corolla teeth have been present in all the blooms.  That is great ...

Brugmansia Joli x Langenbuscher Garten

Here is a seedling from the reverse of the Brugmansia Langenbuscher Garten x Joli cross I showcased in my previous post. This time around Brugmansia Joli is the pod parent rather than the pollen donor. This Brugmansia Joli x Langenbuscher Garten seedling has a very simple form and the blooms are very thick in texture. The thick textured blooms and great parentage justify me keeping it around for a few more seasons. The blooms started out cream and picked up a slight apricot color around the ...

Brugmansia Langenbuscher Garten x Joli

My real job in the event business has kept me very busy the past couple of weeks, so I have not had time to show off some of my newest Angel Trumpet seedlings.  I'll start with this new seedling from a cross between Brugmansia Langenbuscher Garten x Joli that is currently in bloom. While the blooms are nice, currently they are really not special enough to convince me this one is going to be keeper.  It will be safe for another six months though because I crossed it back to its mother, ...

Look at the physique on this lady!

Here is a new Angel Trumpet with a rather shapely bloom.  It is a seedling from a cross I made between Brugmansia Joli and Angel's Exotic. The blooms are large and the color deepens as the bloom matures. I do not believe I have seen a bloom with a shape like this before. This bloom cycle only had three blooms, but I can only imagine how striking a larger plant with a giant flush would be.This one is certainly worth watching during 2012.
