Introducing Brugmansia 'Buttercup'

Meet Sommer Gardens' newest Introduction, Brugmansia 'Buttercup'!  'Buttercup' was recently registered with the International Brugmansia and Datura Society (iBrugs.com).Brugmansia 'Buttercup' evolved from an Angel Trumpet seedling I grew out from a Brenda Delph cross of Brugmansia 'Lady Liberty' x 'Jamies Monkey Business'.  The photo above shows the cool weather color and the bloom form on the first day the bloom opens.  In the warmer summer months the blooms are more of a cream color. As ...

Brugmansia Lady Liberty x Meloncholy Baby

Here's a new Angel Trumpet seedling that has been blooming almost non-stop since summer.  It is from a Brenda Delph cross between Brugmansia Lady Liberty x Meloncholy Baby. The blooms have a rather unusual form to them and are thick in texture.  I'm not very good at detecting fragrances but this seedling has a pleasant one strong enough to grab my attention. The blooms start out a nice cream color and slowly and slowly pick up a light apricot color as they mature.I'm not sure if this bloom ...

Lady Liberty has great timing...

I was sorting through a bunch of Brugmansia photos I took this past week and I just realized that Lady Liberty was blooming on the 4th of July...how appropriate!  Having been knocked down by the freeze this past winter, this was Lady Liberty's first bloom of the year.Brugmansia Lady Liberty is a Brenda Delph hybrid from a cross involving Creamsickle and Insignis Solid Gold. I have lots of seedlings growing with Lady Liberty as the pod parent that have yet to bloom.  I had a ...

A buttery Brugmansia treat

My Brugmansia seedlings are slowly coming back into bloom after this past winter's devastating freezes.  The first to bloom are repeats, seedlings that bloomed for the first time last fall. Here's one that I put it my keeper zone last year to see how it performs this this summer.  It is a seedling from a cross made by Brenda Delph involving Brugmansia Lady Liberty and Jamie's Monkey Business..The blooms are a light butter yellow color with a thick texture.  Now that our temperatures are up ...

A classy Lady Liberty Angel Trumpet shows off her babies

After a couple days of featuring double pink Angel Trumpets, I decided its time to display this nice double white that came into bloom earlier this week.  These blooms are from a seedling from the brugmansia cross of Lady Liberty x Meloncholy Baby.So far the blooms have stayed snow white with no influence of color from its father, Meloncholy Baby. The blooms have staying power in the heat and this seedling likes to bloom.  As these blooms are fading it already had another flush of buds in the ...

Angel Trumpet tendrils under control...

After showing a couple of Angel Trumpet blooms with wild tendrils I thought I'd drop one in that has its whiskers under control.  This new bloom is from a cross between Brugmansia Lady Liberty and Jamie's Monkey Business. The first picture is from day one, while the picture below is what the bloom looks like on day three.  It is holding up great in the heat and has a pleasant fragrance too.  I think I'll carry this one forward to next year to see how it performs and perhaps make a few crosses ...

This Angel Trumpet is ready to take off!

At least that is what is looks like when you look at these buds.  With the fat corolla tube and the way the tendrils point down, the buds look like little spaceships hanging on a tree.Today's whitey is a cross between brugmansia Lady Liberty, a beautiful double white from Brenda Delph, x Rubiline.  The blooms hold up well in the heat, are thick textured and have a nice fragrance.  What to do, what to do.....Blooming at the same time I have several Brugmansia Rubiline x Lady Liberty ...
