Spider on patrol

I'm sure he is eying that plump little fruit fly that is buzzing towards him for a midnight snack...or perhaps he's got his eye on the one off to his right? Actually the spiders have gotten out of control amongst my brugmansia plants, especially the crab spiders. It is nearly impossible to walk down the isles without running into several spider webs.  I lost count as to how many times I've felt one these pointy crab spiders scurrying across my face. An Angel Trumpet version of Beauty & the Beast

When I'm out snapping photos of my new blooms, often I do not see creatures that may be on or near them until I review the photos later.  While checking out some recent photos I shot of this Brugmansia Rubirosa x Sam seedling I spotted this tiny spider making his rounds.A spider sure beats seeing the pairs of eyes glowing in the background I often see on some of my nighttime photos.

If only spiders could talk....

This one would be saying "I dare you to try and pollinate this Angel Trumpet bloom!" or "come here little moth, I have some sweet nectar for you inside this bloom."Hopefully he's also on the lookout for the caterpillars that are just starting to appear on many of my brugmansia.

Creatures of the night...

With summer comes the usual influx of garden pests, both good and bad.  Spiders are my friends, that is until I accidentally run smack dab into their webs at night.Nothing gets your blood pressure riled up like the feeling of sticky spider web wrapping around your face....unless.....you happen to also feel the pitter-patter of 8 little spider legs scurrying across your face to the back of your neck.I wonder what colorful insect this guy is munching on for his midnight snack?Hardly a week ...
