Anyone who has grown Angel Trumpets for more than a season understands how environmental conditions can have a major influence on a bloom's appearance. Brugmansia Angel's Golden Dreams is a great example of this. Here's a photo of what the typical color of AGD blooms look like during our warm growing season. Now that the temps have cooled off during the day and night, the blooms have turned a nice yellow/orange color. This color deepened even more when the nighttime temperature dropped ... Categories:Brugmansia Tags:Angel TrumpetAngel's Golden DreamsbrugBrugmansiabrugs Read more
Saturday, December 4, 2010 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 8178 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating Orange Sunshine flirts with Pink Smitty I finally was rewarded with some color from my cross of Brugmansia Orange Sunshine x Pink Smitty. This new Angel Trumpet seedling has a striking resemblance to Brugmansia Jazzy. This particular cross was one I decided to grow the entire seed pod out so I could see the diversity in a single cross. Out of the 20 or so seedlings that have already bloomed, most have been white. I have only kept one in my watch zone so far, a double light orange. I think I'll carry this one over as well and ... Here's one that made it to my watch list. It is from a cross of Brugmansia (Bert x Unknown) x America.Unfortunately I do not have additional photos showing how the bloom matured because I sliced these open to harvest their pollen and then dust them with some other pollen. The final color ended up being a nice rich orange color.I have other seedlings from this same cross that should be ... It is from a cross involving Brugmansia Pink Perfektion and Orange Sunshine. Its snow white double Angel Trumpet blooms stand out from the dozens of other double white seedlings that bloomed this year because of its thick texture. Thick texture equates to a more durable, longer lasting bloom. That is a very desirable trait to pass along, so ... It is from a cross involving Brugmansia Lemon Twist x Lemon Meringue. The outer skirt of the bloom has a waxy texture and is a bright yellow. The inner skirt is what makes this bloom unique. It has more of a satiny texture and is white with yellow edges. The white remained throughout the duration of the bloom's cycle. It is sort of the reverse of its father, Lemon Meringue, where the bloom ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel TrumpetBrugmansiabrugsLemon MeringueLemon Twist Read more
Thursday, November 25, 2010 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 7230 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating Look at the curves on this Angel Trumpet This is one smooth Angel Trumpet bloom. The cross is Brugmansia Pink Smitty x an unknown pollen parent. The blooms are slightly smaller than an average sized Angel Trumpet bloom and are long lasting with a mild fragrance. So far the plant has remained below four feet tall. I carried this Brugmansia seedling over from 2009 and I plan to hold on to it for at least another year.I'll most likely cross it back to its mother this winter just to see if I can create a pillow-like double. They caught me by surprise because right before sundown I was in the same area doing some pollinating and never saw them. I went back out after dark to finish up my pollinating and was pleasantly surprised at my find. When you have so many plants growing close together it is real easy to miss blooms in the daylight, At night, with the help of a strong LED headlamp, ...
