Here's one that just came back into bloom. As you can see in the photo, this Angel Trumpet bloom is jumbo sized with great form. Like most Brugmansia Angel's Exotic crosses in my collection, the pink color deepens as the blooms age.I like the wide-body look of the blooms, A wide corolla tube helps keep the flower skirts from becoming stuffed inside. Stuffed corolla skirts tend ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel TrumpetAngels ExoticbrugBrugmansiaButterflyhybridingseedling Read more
Friday, March 16, 2012 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 9977 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating A new Angel Trumpet with great color, form and substance One of the more striking blooms appearing in my watch zone this week was this one on an Angel Trumpet seedling I carried over from last summer. The cross is Brugmansia Cassies Curls x (Ludger's Summer Dream x Creamsicle). The blooms are thick textured with the deep orange color extending all the way up the corolla tube. The bloom form is simple with an inner skirt that is often split. I have several seedlings from this same cross in my watch zone. All have the same rich color, but with ... Friday, March 16, 2012 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 10537 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating A Brugmansia diamond in the rough This new Angel Trumpet seedling grabbed my attention earlier this week when its first bloom opened. It is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Herrenhauser Gold and Langenbuscher Garten.Because this was the very first bloom on this seedling, the bloom is sort of a mess. I think it shows great potential and I'm certain the next blooms will be much better. I have at least 20 more seedlings of this same cross yet to bloom, several of which are setting buds now. With such great parentage, I ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel TrumpetbrugBrugmansiaHERRENHAUSER GOLDLangenbuscher Garten Read more
Friday, March 16, 2012 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 8269 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating The craziness starts all over again... In early February I started sowing seeds from some of my 2011 Brugmansia crosses. I had no idea how many unique crosses I had until started creating the community pots. Each one of the pots below represent a unique cross. I wish I could share how many brugmansia crosses are sprouting above, but I plan to create a contest around that on iBrugs.com next week. I can tell you that when you combine that number with the additional crosses I have planted since these pictures were taken, the ... Categories:HybridizingBrugmansiaSeedlings Read more
Saturday, March 10, 2012 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 19403 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating A tiny gem of a Brugmansia I've been watching this Angel Trumpet seedling for the past two years and now I'm ready to place it on my "to be registered' list. It is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Naughty Nick x Cleopatra.Don't be fooled by the photo and assume the blooms are large. The blooms on this seedling are always less than two inches across. The blooms start out cream colored and slowly pick up some apricot highlights as they mature. While the blooms may be petite, the plant is not. It definitely has ... Tuesday, February 14, 2012 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 9909 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating Wow, from snow white to golden orange in one day Looking at the photo below you would never guess that this Angel Trumpet seedling was snow white for a couple of days before turning gold overnight. The cross is Brugmansia Orange Sunshine x Pink Smitty. Here's what this seedling looked like the previous day, snow white without a hint of color. Reflecting back it was sort of funny because at the time I was examining it and trying to determine if this white brugmansia was worthy of keeping. I carried this seedling over from 2010 but had ... So far the blooms on this seedling have remained snow white with separated corolla skirts.I decided to place this one in my watch zone and plan to cross it back to it's double yellow brother the next time it blooms. I'll also be ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel TrumpetAngels ExoticbrugBrugmansiainca sun Read more
Monday, February 13, 2012 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 5885 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating Intoducing another showy white Angel Trumpet seedling Here's another new white Angel Trumpet seedling that recently impressed me with its blooms. This one is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Ludger's Windsong x Naughty Nick. Even though the parent's bloom yellow and orange respectively, the blooms on this seedling are snow white and quite showy. I feel this seedling is worthy of at least watching for a few more bloom cycles before deciding its fate. What I decided to do is group the white seedlings I'm watching together and wait ...
