An elegant brugmansia seedling earns keeper status

I've been watching this brugmansia seedling perform for several years now and decided it was time to make it a keeper!

Another Angel Trumpet that forgot who its parents were

In today's new Angel Trumpet seedling there is no resemblance to to either one of the parents.  It is a cross between brugmansia Pink Smitty x The Chief.  I'm sure this look is linked back to Pink Smitty as I have seen numerous single pink Aurea style blooms come out of the many Pink Smitty crosses I am growing.  The blooms on this brugmansia seedling are waxy in appearance, thick textured and long lasting.  I can't remember what the fragrance was like.A couple of months ago I posted ...

Another new pink Angel Trumpet seedling struts its stuff

Here's a beautiful new Angel Trumpet from a brugmansia cross involving Pink Smitty x Miss Emily Meckenzie.  The blooms were large, thick textured, long lasting and fragrant.  The big question is, "are these blooms special enough to rise above the hundreds of other new single pinks that have bloomed this season?"  Well this one will have a couple more months to prove itself before it gets tagged.  U6SPVYH7MEESRelated articles by ZemantaAn Angel Trumpet on steroids emerges... ...

An Angel Trumpet taking after daddy

Today's featured Angel Trumpet seedling is from a cross between Brugmansia Rubiline x Pink Smitty.  As you can see, the bloom has a very strong resemblance to it's daddy, Pink Smitty.  When I snapped this picture it was still int he 80's at night so the bloom looks sort of wilted.  Any brug that holds up under our hot Florida summer weather is certainly worth watching.  Right now this is just another double pink to me so it will need to prove its worthiness if it is to remain in my breeding ...

An Angel Trumpet that stacks up

Here's another Angel Trumpet seedling from the cross between brugmansia Orange Sunshine x Pink Smitty.  You may recall from previous posts that this is a cross where I'm growing close to 100 seedlings from the same cross in order to document the broad range of blooms produced. At first glance this seedling did not do much for me.  But after it had 5-6 blooms open at once, it stood out.  The blooms are large, snow white, and all have separated or stacked skirts.  It is a vigorous grower and ...

Time to get back down to earth in my world of Angel Trumpets

It is hard to top yesterday's featured Angel Trumpet so I figured I would post more a traditional Aurea style bloom to bring us down to earth.  Here's a new bloom form a seedling from a cross involving brugmansia Rosamond and Pink Smitty. The blooms are thick textured and nod horizontally.  I'm not sure what I'll end up doing with this one but for now I'll let it be and see what it does this fall.

A tale of two Smittys, an Angel Trumpet two for Tuesday!

Seeing how I posted today's seedling so early in the morning, I figured why not make this a "two for Tuesday" and post another new Angel Trumpet seedling?  Better yet, I'll post two more!  Actually it's just a single photo with two unique blooms.  Both are seedlings of a Brugmansia cross between Pink Smitty and an unknown father.   One is a double and the other a single.  While it appears they are growing on the same plant, they are actually on separate plants growing side by side. Actually ...

I'll only watch this Angel Trumpet because of its parents...

When a new Angel Trumpet displays its first bloom, you never know what the future may hold for it.  Sometimes the blooms get better, sometimes they get worse, and often they bounce back and forth between good and bad.  Well this first bloom on a seedling from a cross between brugmansia Pink Smitty x The Chief is nothing to get excited about. But with the great parents it has, it is certainly worth watching for a few months.  My gut feeling is that the next set of blooms will be a major ...

An Angel Trumpet drops her skirts!

Here's another Angel Trumpet seedling from cross between brugmansia Orange Sunshine x Pink Smitty.  As you may recall this is one of the crosses I made where I am growing out a bunch of seedlings so I can document the range of diversity in the blooms.  This cross has been producing numerous double white blooming seedlings.  This seedling is producing nice separated skirts.  It's first bloom was actually a mini flush of 6 blooms and all had dropped skirts like this one.  Nothing really ...
