Sunday, October 28, 2012 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 10248 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating Some fall color amongst my Angel Trumpets Looks like I have another nice double orange Angel Trumpet seedling to place in my watch zone. This seedling is from a cross I made between Brugmansia 'New Orleans Lady' x 'Bert'.The plant is healthy and a robust grower and the blooms fairly large. I took these photos last week when the weather was still summer-like, and as you can see, the blooms held up well in the heat. I bet the bloom color will deepen to a brighter orange when the next flush of blooms appear during cooler weather. Even ... It is from a cross I made between Brugmansia 'Bert' x 'Naughty Nick'.It definitely has its father's growth genes and It is pushing up the top of my shadehouse, which is about 9 feet high in that location. The blooms are mostly all triples and are slightly larger than those of 'Naughty Nick'. The corolla skirts are often extended, much like those of Brugmansia 'Angels ... Monday, December 19, 2011 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 9030 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating Part Angel Trumpet, part octopus...just kidding of course. This striking new Angel Trumpet seedling has flailing corolla teeth that resemble an octopus or spider. The cross is one I made between Brugmansia Bert and Angel's Exotic. As the bloom matured the color deepened even more than what is shown in these pictures. I know where the wild corolla teeth came from, its father, Angel's Exotic. I sure whish my sense of smell was better because I would love to know if this bloom was fragrant or not.I decided to keep this one in my watch zone for 2012. Saturday, December 3, 2011 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 8033 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating A new golden Angel Trumpet illuminates the midnight sky I've had so many yellow/orange seedlings bloom this fall that it is really going to be a challenge to decide which ones are worthy of keeping. Here is one I just placed in my watch zone. It is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Angel's Moonlight and Bert. Here in Florida I feel it is very important to grow out any promising yellow/orange Angel Trumpet seedlings for at least a year before deciding if they are worthy of keeping. Yellow and Orange cultivars are more susceptible to fungal ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel TrumpetAngel's MoonlightbertbrugBrugmansia Read more
Thursday, November 10, 2011 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 9245 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating Brugmansia Bert joins forces with Naughty Nick In my early days of hybridizing Angel Trumpets I made numerous crosses with Brugmansia Bert. Here is the result of one of those crosses with Brugmansia Naughty Nick as the pollen parent. This batch of seedlings took longer than normal to bloom for the first time after being damaged in our 2009 and 2010 freezes. I have three separate seedlings from this cross in bloom right now and the blooms on all three are very similar in appearance, but the bloom size varies. On one seedling the blooms ... It is from a cross involving Brugmansia Bert x America. With the quantity of seedlings I am currently growing out, multi-skirt whites are a fairly common find. A bloom or plant really has to be special to stand out from the others. This seedling certainly stands out from the others. You can easily tell which parent had the most dominance in this cross. This seedling has some great traits that were passed on ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel TrumpetbertBrugmansiabrugmansia americabrugs Read more

This Angel Trumpet seedling appears to want to keep it's split corolla format. The bloom is from a Brugmansia Bert a Angel's Exotic seedling. This seedling has had multiple bloom cycles since spring and with each one all the blooms have been split. It would be cool if the bloom fanned out more, but currently they stay closed like the photo above. I'm not sure what I will do with this seedling. Perhaps i will just grow it out as a novelty.
