Sunday, October 28, 2012 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 10248 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating Some fall color amongst my Angel Trumpets Looks like I have another nice double orange Angel Trumpet seedling to place in my watch zone. This seedling is from a cross I made between Brugmansia 'New Orleans Lady' x 'Bert'.The plant is healthy and a robust grower and the blooms fairly large. I took these photos last week when the weather was still summer-like, and as you can see, the blooms held up well in the heat. I bet the bloom color will deepen to a brighter orange when the next flush of blooms appear during cooler weather. Even ... Wednesday, September 26, 2012 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 11703 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating New fall color in my brugmansia jungle Now that summer is winding down and the nights are starting to cool off ever so slightly (like a low of 72 versus 76 is really that cool), my Angel Trumpet seedlings are starting to finally hold their buds and bloom. Based on some of the blooms I have recently experienced, I expect fall to be full of surprises. Here's a new seedling that recently bloomed that has already set the bar very high for fall. It is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Angels Swingtime x (Shooting Star x New ... Monday, September 3, 2012 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 9267 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating Another golden Brugmansia moves to my watch zone After a lull in blooms, mainly due to the summer heat, my Angel Trumpet seedlings are starting to set buds again! Here is one that caught my attention this weekend. It is a seedling from a cross I made between Brugmansia Angels Summerset x (Terri Schindler Shiavo x New Orleans Lady). The rich golden yellow color extends all the way up the corolla tube and the color was consistent through the life of the bloom. The blooms are average in size with good substance. The father of this seedling, ... It is from a cross I made between Brugmansia Orange Sunshine x New Orleans Lady.I like the fact that it has nice separated skirts. The blooms are also thicker in texture which helps them hold up better in our Florida heat. This seedling has gone through several bloom cycles and so far the blooms have remained snow white. I feel this seedling is worthy of watching so I'm going to carry it over into ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel TrumpetbrugBrugmansianew orleans ladyORANGE SUNSHINE Read more
Thursday, January 26, 2012 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 9297 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating An Angel Trumpet influenced by two great ladies When you make an Angel Trumpet cross with two classic ladies, you can usually count on some of the offspring being watchers. Here's one seedling from the cross I made between Brugmansia Painted Lady x New Orleans Lady that I feel is worth watching for a few more seasons. Most pf the blooms on this seedling have had the bloom form pictured above. Sometimes it will produce a bloom that strongly resembles its father, New Orleans Lady, as you can see below.Although my sense of smell is not that ... Tuesday, November 22, 2011 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 7462 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating An Angel Trumpet with super sized twangers! Check-out the corolla teeth on this new Angel Trumpet seedling. The cross is Brugmansia Shooting Star x New Orleans Lady. These blooms have to have some of the longest tendrils of any seedling I have grown to date. The blooms are large in size and very fragrant. The color is OK, but it is really the long corolla teeth that make these blooms stand out.I plan to carry this one over to 2012 and will most likely make a few crosses with it as well this winter. Here is the first of many I plan to register this year. I named this one Brugmansia 'Marshmallow Sunset'.This seedling originated from a Brenda Delph cross involving Brugmansia New Orleans Lady and (Angel's Flight x Charming). You can see easily see traits from both parents in these blooms. The bloom form and size is more in line with those of ...
