Seeing how it is New Year's Eve, you may be thinking I'm talking about the year 2009, but I'm not. I'm talking about another darn Cuban Tree Frog! Who knows, this could be the same one I've let escape a few times already this year. With eyes like those looking at you, how on earth could you snuff this poor guy out???? If you followed my earlier posts you know they are an invasive species that is working its way up the state. When found, we are supposed to destroy them. Actually, ... Sunday, December 27, 2009 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 6644 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating Another pink Angel Trumpet to watch in 2011 When I first started growing Angel Trumpets from seed, I expected most to turn-out to be single whites that would eventually have to be composted....at least that is what I read on all the brugmansia forums. For the first two years that was not the case as pink prevailed and was the dominate color in my seedlings. One single pink I carried over from last year was this seedling from a cross involving Brugmansia Earth Angel x Pink Smitty,What I really liked about it was its soft pink color ... Sunday, December 27, 2009 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 7220 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating Time for another Angel Trumpet two for Tuesday! Today I'm featuring Angel Trumpet blooms from two separate seedlings from the same brugmansia cross of Gemini x (Susanne x Rothkirch). The first one has a rather wild looking snow white bloom and was obviously influenced heavily by its mother, Gemini. The second brugmansia seedling from this cross had a greater influence from its father, a seedling from a cross of brugmansia Susanne x Rothkirch, both single pinks. Gemini was still dominate in this second seedling providing the double/triple ... Categories:BrugmansiaSeedlings Tags:Angel TrumpetbloomsBrugmansiabrugsGeminirothkirchSeedlingsSusanne Read more
Sunday, December 27, 2009 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 9647 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating Orange, but not orange enough! I'm not sure what to think of this new Angel Trumpet seedling. It is a cross of brugmansia Bernstein x New Orleans Lady.If it had the bright orange color of brugmansia Bernstein it would be a winner for sure. Better yet, a new Orleans Lady style bloom with Bernstein's color! Maybe a cross back to its parents will do the trick? Sunday, December 27, 2009 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 5663 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating An Angel Trumpet to warm up this freezing morning With temperatures hovering close to freezing this morning, I thought I would feature a nice warm yellow Angel Trumpet seedling to brighten up the day. Today's Brugmansia seedling is from a cross between Axel Rose x Mountain Treasure. As you can see, this beautiful Angel Trumpet seedling starts out as a nice soft yellow and then slowly ages to medium orange. When you combine the color, form, and substance of this bloom, it is easy to see why this one will be carried forward to watch in 2010. Sunday, December 27, 2009 / Author: Sommer Gardens / Number of views: 6177 / Comments: / Article rating: No rating A razzle-dazzled Angel Trumpet This new Angel Trumpet seedling certainly fits the definition of razzle-dazzle, "showiness, brilliance, or virtuosity in technique or effect, often without concomitant substance or worth". The seedling is a cross between brugmansia Axel Rose x Ludger's Windsong. The crazy tendrils are a carry-over from its father. I wish it was a deeper yellow, but you never know how the color will develop when warm weather arrives in a few months. Today's featured brugmansia seedling is from a cross of Apricot Reise x Rubirosa. With its long pointed tendrils and rather industrial looking bloom, this seedling better calm down and smooth things out if it wants to survive in the competitive single pink keepers division.
