This scrumptious Angel Trumpet thrives in our summer heat

Even in our hot and steamy summer weather, this Angel Trumpet seedling continues to wow me.  While most of my brugs are taking a break from blooming right now, this Brugmansia Creamsicle x Shooting Star seedling continues to produce flush after flush of beautiful blooms. I shot this photo yesterday morning and as you can see, a couple of fruit flies are finding this bloom scrumptious as well.I plan to name and register this seedling next month.  It is a vigorous grower and roots easily so it ...

The Madame of the Brugmansia World

If you are looking for a heat loving Angel Trumpet, Brugmansia Madame Bouvarie is a great choice. Here in Florida, many brugmansia cultivars take a break from blooming when the temperatures peek in August, but not Madame Bouvarie.  She keeps producing flush after flush no matter what the high temperature is.Brugmansia Madame Bouvarie shows her best color during the warm summer months.  The photos I have posted here really do not show the luminescent coloring of the edges of the corolla and ...

A flouncy Angel Trumpet surprise

This rather striking bloom caught me by surprise early this morning.  It is from a cross I made involving Brugmansia (Joli x Unknown) x New Orleans Lady. This jumbo sized bloom was unique in shape and quite impressive. The mother, Brugmansia Joli x Unknown is a single white seedling I have been watching for three years now.  It closely resembles a white version of Brugmansia Joli and I am still undecided if I want to register and release it.  New Orleans Lady, the pollen parent, is a nice ...

Some morning sunshine from an Angel Trumpet

One morning last week I was greeted with this rather unique bloom on a new Angel Trumpet seedling.  The cross is Brugmansia Angel's Swingtime x Orange Zest.It appears as if this seedling wants to have multi-skirted blooms, but currently it is confused.  That is not that uncommon because many times it takes multiple bloom cycles for a seedling to get its act together and the blooms stabilize.  That is why it is important for hybridizers to grow a seedling out for multiple seasons before ...

Brugmansia Angel's Exotic x Inca Sun produces another beauty

Another seedling from my Brugmansia Angel's Exotic x Inca Sun cross has earned a spot in my watch zone.  This one more closely resembles its mother, Angels Exotic than the other seedlings from this cross I placed in my watch zone earlier. The more I look at this Angel Trumpet bloom the more it resembles a white/cream colored Angels Exotic bloom. If Angels Exotic happens to be in bloom the next time this seedling blooms, I'll take a picture of the two together for comparison.I plan to ...

Two great Brugmansia parents make for a beautiful seedling

Here's another Angel Trumpet seedling that is showing great promise this summer.  It is a seedling from a cross between Brugmansia Mon Amour de Muriel and Shooting Star. This Brugmansia seedling caught my attention last year and was placed into my watch zone.  It has really turned out to be a watcher with its beautifully formed double-skirted, deep salmon colored blooms Often the blooms will start out with a distinct separation before slowly starting to recurve. The plant is a vigorous ...

I guess you could call this Angel Trumpet an exotic butterfly

So far this Angel Trumpet cross involving Brugmansia Butterfly x Angels Exotic has yielded some interesting results.  Here's a recent bloomer that I placed into my watch zone.  This one I have labeled as seedling #7.The blooms are large and the corolla skirts compact. Because this was the first bloom on this seedling, it will be interesting to see what the next blooms are like.  Quite often it takes several bloom cycles for a seedling's blooms to evolve into their final form. The color was a ...

March wraps up as the golden Angel Trumpet month

March turned out to be a golden Angel Trumpet month with more than a dozen promising new yellow/orange seedlings blooming for the first time.  Here is another one that stood out amongst the rest.  It is from a cross involving Brugmansia Ludger's Windsong x Angel's Moonlight.  The blooms on this seedling were above average in size with a nice thick texture.  They started out gold and then turned more orange as they aged.  The color was extremely rich and you could spot these blooms from ...
